Meet Thomas, FP&A Manager at Sublime

Hi, can you say a few words about you?

I’m Thomas, I’m from Villepinte in the Paris area, where I spent all my childhood. In August this year, I will celebrate my 4th year at Sublime! I arrived for my end-of-study internship and was then proposed a permanent contract. There was no financial controller at that time, so it was a job creation.

Can you tell us about your position at Sublime?

So, I arrived as a financial controller, and I am now FP&A Manager (Financial Planning & Analysis).

I would say that my main missions include the following:

• Maintaining and refreshing financial reports for managers, the executive committee, the CFO…
• A major work on the follow-up of costs and budgets: revenues, profit & loss simulation, designing the several business plan models
• Daily costs monitoring
• Monitoring and updating of key financial KPIs (margin, costs etc)

What do you like the most about your job?

Definitely the fact that I have a cross-functional position. I have a lot of different people to talk to, I am lucky to be in contact with almost all the global teams depending on the period. It gives me a better understanding of what everyone's doing. I am thus constantly discovering new things. Even in my personal work, it might be cyclical but there are always new things to learn.

What makes you get up in the morning?

I’m the first generation of my family to be born in France. My parents immigrated to France after the civil war in Cambodia, which they lived through. Without going into too much detail, they arrived in France as teenagers who hadn’t been able to finish their studies, and they didn’t speak French. They have worked so hard and struggled to give me and my sisters a future, that I know how lucky I am, and I know how to put things into perspective. They’ve given me values that guide me every day.

How would you describe your workday to a young child?

I throw a lot of numbers into a computer, and the computer tells me if we're earning or losing money. That's it!

A passion outside of work?

Mainly video games. I recently took part in a business-to-business tournament with Sublime. Actually, I’ve also been a champion of the F1 online league 12 years ago! I’m a F1 fan so it allowed me to link these 2 passions.

What do you miss most about your colleagues during the confinement?

To laugh!

Your motto in life?

We can always do better and try to be irreproachable. The negative side is that you can't always do better when you don't have the time...so it’s important to be pragmatic and be able to deliver things on time.
