Julien interview

Hi, can you say a few words about you?

I’m Julien, I’ve been working at Sublime for five years now. They gave me a chance when I was 21 years old only, and I’ve stayed since then!

Can you tell us more about your position at Sublime?

Well I arrived as an apprentice while I was pursuing a Master in artistic direction and entrepreneurship, we were only fifteen at Sublime. I grew up with the company and I am now managing the Creative Studio team, whose work is to produce our standard formats.

I often take part in client meetings along with our sales team, when clients have challenging needs. The idea is to present the creative possibilities we can offer, as we can work together to produce tailormade and innovative ad units.

On the internal side, I deal with issues related to the creativity of our formats or prototype formats. A question I’m asked is, for example, “how can we turn this feature into a format available to as many clients as possible?”. Or ‘I need to engage users in a specific way, how can I do that through a skin?”

What is your best accomplishment, either professional or personal?

The cohesive, motivated and very competent team I’ve built at Sublime.

Your best memory at Sublime? A funny anecdote?

First day at Sublime, first request from my boss: "Can you give us a hand to assemble the chairs and install the whiteboard?". And then the seminars at Sublime... a real know-how too, I must say!

What makes you get up in the morning?

My alarm and the call of a good coffee.

I’ve needed since I was a child to create new things, and doing this in the advertising industry is enjoyable. Digital advertising has the advantage of being a very fast-paced and technological market. Everything is moving very fast, especially innovation. There are always new questions and thus a constant need for answers, tools, new products etc.

Moreover, and this is essential for me, Sublime formats have always met standards of respect for the end user. To create formats, tools, functionalities is one thing. We do this to make information visible, to publicise, but not by impairing the visibility of other information and disturbing the Internet users. In short, I get up in order to go to bed at night having solved some questions. Without forgetting some nice evenings with friends, of course.

And...how would you describe your work day to a young child?

We make drawings that we show to everyone later on the computer.

Thanks Julien!
